All students in grades 4-8 are required to read 2 books this summer. Summer Reading Assignments by Grade are below.

 

Rising 4th          Rising 4th graders should read
1 biography and 1 book of their choice.
Each must be at least 100 pages.

Biography Project – Person Book

Directions for the written report: You may type or write your final copy in your best printing about your famous person on 4x6 index cards.  Include the following information on your report.

·    Where was the person born? In what year?

·    Where did the person grow up?

·    What does/did this person do for a living?

·    Why is this person famous? What did/does this person do to become famous?

·    How has this person made an impact on other’s lives?

·    Interesting information or facts about your famous person

This project is due the first week of school in August.

 

 

Rising 5th and 6th Grades

1.    Find a quiet place, get comfortable, and enjoy your summer reading books.

2.   Please ask mom to purchase a hard-covered composition book.

3.   Information may be kept in the one composition book.

4.   List the name of the book and the author’s name. (Fifth grade: Seaman: The Dog Who Explored the West with Lewis & Clark; Sixth grade: both books –do a section in your notebook for each book.)

5.   Section 1.      What is the setting of the book? (When, approximately, and where does the story take place?) Answers should be in complete sentences.

6.   Section 2.     As you read, if you come across a word that is not familiar, or a word that you just think is interesting, jot it down.  Write a definition for each word, or draw a picture showing the meaning of the word.  (5th grade:  minimum 5 words;  6th grade minimum: 10 words per book) Each student’s word list should be unique since the student chooses the word that interests him or her.

7.   Section 3.      Keep a list of the characters in the book.  Write some interesting things about each of them.

8.   Section 4.      Book Review:  Would you recommend this book to a classmate?  Write a paragraph explaining why or why not.

9.   Be prepared to take a written test in class on your summer reading during the first week of school.  We will also do a project IN SCHOOL.
